Our self-study computer science curriculum teaches your students how to write their very own computer programs and games!The KidCoder Visual Basic Series and KidCoder Web Series for 4th-12th grade is light-hearted and easy-to-learn, with plenty of detailed examples and guidance to keep your student on the right track. No Prior Programming Experience Needed!
Our courses are self-study and can be completed on the student's own computer, at their own pace.
You can steer your student in the right direction with no prior programming knowledge. Students only need typical computer usage skills to start; we will teach them programming from the ground up!
Each course comes with student activity starters, supplementary instructional documents, a Solution Guide, fully coded solutions for all activities, tests and answer keys, and guidance on evaluating projects.
Most questions about how to code individual activities are easily answered by referring to the Solution Guide (with or without parental involvement). We also provide free technical support to assist with any aspect of the courses!
Teachers who wish to closely monitor and grade student progress for credit purposes can administer chapter tests which are provided (with answer keys). We also provide advice and guidelines for evaluating student activities.
What Skills do Students Need to Begin?
All of our courses assume the student is already familiar with using a keyboard and mouse to select and run programs, navigate application menu systems, and generally interact with their operating system.Students should understand how to store and retrieve files on the hard disk and how to use the built-in operating system applications to navigate a file system and directory structures. It is helpful to also have some familiarity with text editors and using web browsers to find information on the Internet.
We teach students how to program a computer from the ground up, but they should already know the basics about using one!
Which Course Comes First?
Each "series" is an independent course track containing two semesters. The first semester is an entry-level course suitable for students with no prior programming experience. After completing the first course students can move on to the second semester to learn advanced topics. You can purchase both courses from a series together in a discounted "Year Pack"!KidCoder courses are not pre-requisites for TeenCoder. Nor is the TeenCoder C# series a pre-requisite for TeenCoder Java or vice-versa. Simply start your student out on the course track that best matches their grade level and interests.
